Yesterday’s Gone

I wrote this song in 2009 and I had no idea that someone was going to put it into motion by playing it on a guitar and singing it.  It was one of the nicest surprises that anyone has done for me!  My ideal tempo was similar to “Hate Me” by Blue October.

Yesterday’s Gone

It is not that easy
To memorize your faceBox of Pics at Moms
Only through a few good photos
When my mind cannot erase
The butterflies I felt
When every time we kissed goodnight
Is a million times more crucial
Than the photo I hold so tight.

I know I shouldn’t go
To the place I felt was safe
But it burdens me to think
We had every yesterday
I find it within myself
To sift through our box of stuff
Getting rid of every bit of it
To live for me instead of us.

[chorus]
Leaving you today
Leaving behind what I know
It’s the journey I remember
Between all of our photos
Leaving on my way
Breaking in the sorrow
Gathering the pieces to my heart
Just to give to someone else tomorrow.

I was crazy to think
My pride would take your place
A chance to finally free myself
At my own forsaken pace
The racing heart I felt
When I could not wait for more
Left me waiting on those long days
It’s my heart on my sleeve I wore.
I’m not looking back now
To the place I left behind
It’s not much of what I want
This time I’m going to shine
Walk tall into the sunset
Write my wisdom in the sky
Saying how I made my journey
Through tear stained cheeks and bloodshot eyes.

[chorus]
Left you today
Left behind what I know
It’s the journey I’ll remember
Between all of our photos.
Going on my way
Breaking in the sorrow
Gathering the pieces to my heart
Hoping to give it to someone tomorrow.
